The Problem

I didn’t grow up being very good at learning languages. In fact, in first grade, I ended up failing Chinese school twice. And for a long time after that, every attempt to learn a language felt like a repeated cycle of effort without traction: memorize a little, forget a lot, and never feel fluent enough to actually connect. What made it frustrating wasn’t a lack of resources. There were plenty of apps, decks, videos, and textbooks. The problem was that they were scattered, inconsistent, and often built around studying instead of actually using the language. That made steady progress hard to sustain, especially when time was short and energy was low. I’d lose momentum not because I lacked discipline, but because the workflow itself had too many friction points.

The System

While I eventually sidelined language learning because of those friction points, I never stopped trying to understand why they existed and how to remove them. That process eventually became the Wang Method of Learning. Over the course of more than a decade, across demanding academic and professional environments, I refined a system designed to succeed under constraint in both time and energy, not abundance. By systematically identifying and removing friction that had nothing to do with the work itself, the method helps people learn, understand, and apply large amounts of information in significantly less time. It wasn’t developed in ideal conditions; it was stress-tested when time was limited, energy was low, and competing priorities were unavoidable. That’s where most systems fail and where mine thrives.

Why Chinese

Chinese became an obvious and personal place to apply it. I learned that language isn’t just information; it’s access. It’s the ability to meet people where they are, understand them with precision, and communicate with warmth and respect. I wanted that for myself, especially in an area tied to my roots that I never fully had the tools to explore. And I wanted a way for others to get there without the usual chaos: ten tools, a hundred tabs, and constant uncertainty about what actually matters next.

So I built what I wished I’d had from the start: a single, integrated framework that makes Chinese feel stable. Vocabulary organized into structured blocks. Practice designed around real usage, not isolated recognition. Sentences that build automaticity. And small decisions, what to review, what to repeat, what to skip, etc., handled by the system so your attention can stay on learning. The HSK 1-6 Companion App is how that learning system is delivered. It is not just another language app. It is a reliable learning system built to help you move from effort to usable fluency without constantly rebuilding your workflow.

The goal is not endless study. The goal is passing HSK 1-6 efficiently and building usable fluency. The system compresses what would normally take scattered years of trial-and-error into a structured path designed to reduce wasted time, wasted money, and constant resource-hopping.

Vocabulary and practice are fully aligned with HSK 3.0, introduced in structured blocks, and reinforced through carefully designed sentences that reflect both formal and spoken usage.

Most language apps assume you have abundant time, high energy, and perfect consistency. This system is built for the opposite: busy schedules, low-energy days, and real life. The goal isn’t to “feel productive", it's to make progress inevitable.

If you are studying on your own, it gives you a clear HSK path first, so you can build a foundation, get used to Chinese, and later work with a tutor from a stronger position.

About Writing & Handwriting

This app is intentionally typing-based. Handwriting is valuable, but it is a different skill from comprehension and functional use. This system is optimized for understanding, recall, and application, the foundation that makes writing meaningful instead of mechanical.

If handwriting matters to you, pair this with dedicated writing practice. Many learners find that once comprehension is stable and vocabulary is automatic, writing improves faster and with far less friction.

What This Is Not

This is not a calligraphy or stroke-order training tool, and it’s not designed for learners who want heavy gamification or endless novelty without structure.

Your First Week

In your first week, you complete a clearly defined block of vocabulary, begin applying those words in structured sentences, and review within a system that requires no customization. You don’t have to design your workflow or decide what comes next. You simply execute.

The Ongoing Experience

As you continue, the structure remains steady. Blocks are finite. Progress is visible. Review is predictable. The system handles small decisions like what to revisit, what to reinforce, and what to move past, so your attention stays on learning.

The app is built around Simplified Chinese, aligning directly with HSK requirements. Vocabulary follows the new HSK 3.0 framework, with words organized by their official bands so learners always know where they stand.

Progress Tracking & Weekly Structure

Progress is structured around weekly plans designed to define the minimum effective work needed to move forward. Each week outlines exactly what to train, removing guesswork while keeping expectations realistic.

Learners can move faster, slower, or jump ahead as needed, but the baseline structure ensures progress remains steady even during busy or low-energy periods. The system tracks completion through structured blocks rather than abstract streaks or gamified metrics.

Structured Word Blocks

Vocabulary is organized into 100-word blocks sorted by HSK 3.0 level. This creates clear, finite units of progress and removes the ambiguity of endless word lists.

Offline Support & Data Syncing

The app works fully offline for normal use. An internet connection is only required after extended periods away from the app for subscription validation and updates. Learning content is delivered in small, secure packages to support offline access while protecting the integrity of the system’s data.

The HSK 1-6 Companion App is available on iOS and Android, designed for consistent performance and long-term use across both platforms.

Adapted Memory Techniques

The app incorporates a structured memory approach inspired by techniques developed by six-time USA Memory Champion Nelson Dellis, adapted specifically for language learning to improve retention, recall, and long-term stability.

Practice Designed For Real-World Skills

Each question type targets a specific friction point in language learning: sentence construction under pressure, active pronunciation, real-time listening comprehension, writing and character encoding, and increasing fluency across all of these skills. The goal is not to replicate the exam, but to make exam questions feel trivial by comparison.

Audio & Pronunciation Training

Listening practice, pronunciation training, and audio support are built in, using recorded speech and text-to-speech to train both recognition and production.

Study Plans Built For Sustainability

Study plans are designed to build stamina, reduce burnout, and deliver maximum results with minimum effective time investment.

HSK Exam Breakdowns & Integration

Each level includes a clear breakdown of exam structure, guidance on external resources, and instructions on how to integrate exam preparation with daily training inside the app.

Specialized Word Lists & Dictionary

Curated word lists for topics like food, sports, surnames, and many more are included alongside a built-in dictionary that shows block placement and usage context.

Practice Sentence Generation

A dedicated practice sentence system allows learners to generate and train sentences dynamically, reinforcing grammar and comprehension.

Visual Comfort Modes

Two visual themes are available: Volcanic Ash for low-light environments and Bamboo Paper for a brighter, reading-focused experience.

Data & Account Approach

This app does not require a separate user account. Subscriptions are handled through the App Store or Google Play. Learning progress is stored locally on your device, and the system is designed to function without collecting or selling personal study data.

Internet access is only used when needed for subscription validation or periodic updates, allowing the app to remain usable offline while keeping user data private and lightweight.

January 2026 - System Build Started

Initial development began around the core idea: build a structured HSK learning system that reduces scattered studying, repeated relearning, and uncertainty about what to do next.

February 2026 - HSK 1-4 Foundation

The first major version focused on building the core HSK progression: word blocks, sentence practice, review flow, listening, typing, recall, and structured study guidance through HSK 4.

March 2026 - Early Access Release

Early access opened so real learners, tutors, and language specialists could begin testing the system in practice. Feedback from this stage helped refine wording, sentence nuance, question flow, and learner friction points.

April 2026 - Review And Application Improvements

The review system, application-focused learning phases, and question logic were improved so learners could move from recognition toward more usable Chinese.

May 2026 - Human Touch And Guided Learning

The learner experience was redesigned to feel more guided and supportive. Notes, milestones, review weeks, rest weeks, return messages, and transition guidance were rewritten so learners better understand where they are, what comes next, and why it matters.

June 2026 - HSK 5 Ready

HSK 5 is now available. The system also includes expanded sentence practice, HSKK speaking support, sentence starter sequences, improved True/False logic, smoother difficulty progression, and more natural learner guidance through major transitions.

Next - HSK 6 And Continued Refinement

HSK 6 is currently in development. The goal is to keep expanding the system while preserving what makes it useful: clear structure, steady progression, guided review, and practical application.

HSK 5 Ready

The HSK 1-6 Companion App now includes guided progression through HSK 5, with HSK 6 currently in development.

Free Starting Point

HSK 1 and HSK 2 are free to try, so learners can start with the first blocks before deciding whether premium access fits their study path.

Current Early Access Pricing

Premium early access is currently $20/month while the system continues expanding toward full HSK 6 completion.

Future Pricing

After HSK 6 is completed and the full system has been refined further, pricing is expected to increase.

The goal is to keep improving the system without losing what makes it useful: clear structure, guided progression, review support, and practical application.

No Guarantee Of Results

The app is designed to support learning, but it does not guarantee fluency, exam passage, score improvement, school admission, employment outcomes, certification outcomes, or any specific result. Results depend on many factors, including prior knowledge, consistency, effort, outside practice, exam conditions, and individual learning differences.

Early Access And Product Changes

Some features, content, pricing, study plans, downloadable content, and app behavior may change as the system evolves. We may add, remove, revise, reorganize, or correct content and features for technical, educational, legal, or business reasons.

Accounts, Names, And Local Personalization

The app does not currently require a separate Wang Method of Learning account. You may enter a name or nickname so the app can address you during your study journey. Do not enter sensitive information or information you do not want stored on your device.

Subscriptions And Premium Access

Premium features may be offered through an auto-renewing monthly subscription. Subscription purchases, billing, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and payment processing are handled by Apple App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat, or the applicable app marketplace/payment provider.

Premium access may include expanded HSK 2-6 content, downloadable content packs, additional practice tools, study-plan features, app customization features, community links, and related premium materials.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled through the applicable app marketplace before the end of the current billing period. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel a subscription. You are responsible for managing or canceling your subscription through Apple ID Settings, Google Play subscriptions, or the applicable marketplace.

Refunds And Restore Purchases

Refunds are handled by the app marketplace where the purchase was made. Wang Method of Learning does not directly process Apple App Store or Google Play refunds.

If you reinstall the app, switch devices, or lose premium access, use the Restore Purchases feature in the app. Restoration depends on the app marketplace, RevenueCat, network access, and the subscription status associated with your Apple ID or Google Play account.

Local Storage And Device Data

The app stores certain information on your device to operate properly, including study progress, app settings, practice history, downloaded content records, notification settings, local premium status, and similar app-functionality data. If you delete the app or reset app data, some locally stored progress or downloaded content may be lost.

Acceptable Use

You may not misuse the app, copy or scrape app content, resell or redistribute premium materials, reverse engineer the app, bypass paywalls, interfere with app access, or use the app or its content to create competing products or derivative datasets without permission.

Intellectual Property

The app’s content, learning structure, study plans, app design, wording, organization, premium content, software, branding, and related materials are owned by Wang Method of Learning or its creator/licensors, except for third-party materials used with permission or under applicable rights.

Availability, Errors, And Warranty Disclaimer

We try to keep the app useful and reliable, but the app may contain errors, interruptions, inaccurate content, incomplete content, unavailable downloads, or compatibility issues. The app is provided “as is” and “as available” to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitation Of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Wang Method of Learning and its creator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost progress, exam outcomes, learning outcomes, business losses, or subscription issues handled by app marketplaces.

Changes To These Terms

These terms may be updated as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after updates indicates acceptance of the revised terms.

HSK 1-6 Companion App is designed to operate primarily with local, on-device storage rather than a separate Wang Method of Learning account system. The app does not sell your personal information and is not designed to use your learning progress for third-party advertising.

Information Stored On Your Device

The app may store study progress, completed blocks, review progress, practice history, paused sessions, incorrect-question review data, app settings, theme and voice preferences, onboarding state, notification preferences, downloaded content-pack records, encrypted downloaded content packs, and local premium-access cache on your device.

This information is used to operate the app and preserve your study experience. Most of this information remains on your device unless you choose to send feedback, contact support, use marketplace billing, restore purchases, or use a third-party service connected to the app.

Name Or Nickname

The app may ask for a name or nickname so it can address you during your study journey. You should not enter sensitive information. You may use a nickname instead of your real name.

Practice And Learning Data

The app stores learning progress locally so it can show completed blocks, resume practice sessions, display attempts, preserve review queues, and support the study plan. The current version is not designed to transmit individual study progress to Wang Method of Learning servers for advertising or third-party profiling.

Speaking Practice And Microphone

If you use speaking-practice features, the app may request access to your microphone so you can record and replay your own speaking answers. These recordings are used for practice playback on your device. The current version is not designed to upload speaking recordings to Wang Method of Learning servers for grading, advertising, profiling, or external review.

Subscriptions And Purchase History

The app uses Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, validate purchases, restore purchases, and provide premium access. Wang Method of Learning does not receive your payment card information.

The app may receive or display subscription-related information such as premium status, active entitlement status, product identifier, price display, purchase/restore status, purchase history, and a support ID associated with your marketplace or RevenueCat subscription record. This is used to provide premium access, restore purchases, and help with support requests.

Content Delivery And Internet Use

The app may use internet access to validate subscriptions, restore purchases, fetch content manifests, download study content packs, verify content integrity, update content availability, and open external links. Content packs may be downloaded from a hosted content source and stored on your device.

Local Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app may schedule local reminders to help you continue studying. These reminders are intended to be generated and scheduled through your device. You can disable notifications through your device settings.

Feedback And Support

If you send feedback by email or contact support, we may receive the information you choose to include, such as your feedback message, email address, device platform, support ID, screenshots if you provide them, and any other information you voluntarily send. We use this information to respond, troubleshoot, improve the app, and maintain records of support requests.

Third-Party Services

The app may interact with third-party services, including Apple App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat, content hosting providers, email apps, Discord, and other services linked from the app. These third parties may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.

Children’s Privacy

The app is intended for general language-learning audiences and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 should use the app only with a parent or legal guardian and should not enter a real name, email address, or other personal information into the app or support messages without parent or guardian permission.

Data Deletion And Retention

Most study progress and app settings are stored on your device. You can remove local app data by deleting the app, using available reset features, or clearing app storage through your device settings where available.

For support messages and subscription-related customer records that Wang Method of Learning can reasonably access or control, you may request deletion by contacting [email protected].

Some purchase, billing, refund, subscription, fraud-prevention, tax, and marketplace records are maintained by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, or the applicable marketplace/payment provider according to their own policies. Support emails and feedback messages may be retained as needed for support, legal, security, and business record purposes.

Because the current version does not use a separate Wang Method of Learning account or central cloud-sync system, we generally cannot access, retrieve, or export study progress stored locally on your device. If future versions add accounts, cloud sync, institutional dashboards, centralized analytics, or AI features, this policy will be updated to explain the new access, deletion, and export options.

Security

The app uses reasonable technical measures designed to protect app functionality and downloaded content, including encrypted storage for certain downloaded content packs and hash verification for content integrity. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure.

No Sale Of Personal Information

Wang Method of Learning does not sell your personal information. The app does not currently use your learning progress for third-party advertising.

Changes To This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated as the app evolves, including if future versions add accounts, cloud sync, analytics, AI features, institutional dashboards, new payment systems, or other features that change how information is handled.
